Dr. George Guthrie received his MD degree from Loma Linda University in 1981. After completing his Family Practice Residency at Hinsdale Hospital near Chicago he joined a multi-specialty medical group on the island of Guam. The high incidence of Type 2 Diabetes in his patients led to a growing interest in the effective lifestyle treatment of the disease.
Currently, Dr. Guthrie works with the Florida Hospital Family Practice residency where he focuses on guiding residents in general and lifestyle medicine. He has authored three books for lay audiences, Eat Plants, Feel Whole, and its companion Cookbook and Journal. He was also instrumental in the development of the film, PlantWise with its supporting web services. These are all focused on helping people reverse their chronic diseases and live healthier.
Dr. Guthrie is a founding member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, a professional organization focused on educating and empowering physicians to treat the lifestyle causes of disease rather than just providing pills. The organization has over 4000 members and is the fastest-growing specialty in the United States today. Dr. Guthrie is a past president and is still actively involved.
